Dear CEO, a modest proposal
Today I spent 3 hours blocked from doing my job.
I was blocked by my commute and I am embarrassed to admit that because of this I did not get everything done today that I needed to.
Now, I completely understand that this is my fault. Unfortunately, I am not a millionaire who can afford to live closer to our offices. I will endeavor to do better in this area.
Good news though! I spent those three hours thinking on how we could solve this blocker and I came up with what I think is a modest proposal….
We should offer an unlimited data plan to all employees!
I think we can find ways to deliver progress on tasks while commuting for nearly all employees with this.
For those commuting on subways (or other forms of public transportation), it should be easy enough for them to ask others to make room so they can fire up their laptops and get to work.
At first, I wasn’t sure how this would work for those who drive to work, but then I remembered this!

The cops have been doing this for ages. Plus, most commutes are so long because you actually aren’t moving, you’re just sitting there… on the highway… going nowhere.... which means it should be totally safe to use your laptop!
Anyway, I’ve got to go now, traffic is moving again. But think on it! This could really unlock the next era in our company’s productivity!
Sincerely,
The Gridlock Guru
